Emergence of Cape Coaches


The Western Cape has suddenly delivered young talented coaches parading their trade in both the PSL and GladAfrica Championship.

Furthermore, one has gone to Ethiopia and continue to hoist the South African flag very high.

FARPost will pay a special tribute to the special coaches from the cape since Gavin Hunt has been holding the fort from the days of Seven Stars and Hellenic.

1. Brandon Truter

‘Brakkies’, as Truter is known, has been the standout coach in the PSL. He has already bagged the coach of the month and his Swallows FC team punching above their rivals.

With a solid grounding and experience in the NFD, Truter has manifested a brilliant tactical concept at Swallows and is certainly destined for greatness.

2. Benni McCarthy

The former FC Porto striker has been steadily climbing the coaching ranks in Mzansi. A successful stint at Cape Town City has prepared him for an exciting spell at AmaZulu FC.

Benni loves beautiful football and his attacking believes are expressed at AmaZulu who apply a fluid 1-4-3-3 formation.

3. Maahier Davids

The younger brother of Fadlu Davids (the Orlando Pirates Assistant) has come under the shadows of his more illustrious brother.

Maahier, a prodigy of Ernst Middendorp has carved a promising coaching career for himself, and is currently coaching the Ethiopian giants Saint George.

4. Ian Taylor

Taylor represents an intelligent breed of Cape technicians. Having been brought up as an Ajax coach, Taylor’s understanding and tactical proficiency is unbelievable.

He has just returned from China after coaching in the Ajax Amsterdam partnership in Guangzhou youth.

5. Kamaal Sait & Dylan Deane

Sait is the Assistant Coach to Truter at Swallows and is highly qualified, whilst Dylan Deane has worked at Ajax Cape Town and Cape Town All Stars.

With all these coaches coming through in the professional ranks, expect more high technical value in the leagues.
