Europa League bow imminent for Zungu

After missing out on three Europa League games since his arrival at Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers in October, Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani ‘Ben 10’ Zungu is in line to make his Europa League debut for the club on Thursday night.

The ‘Gers’ take on Belgian side Standard Liege at ‘Ibrox’ on match day 5 of the competition.

Zungu made his second appearance for the former Scottish Champions in Sunday’s 4-0 win against Falkirk in the league and played an impressive 71 minutes that had many fans and football pundits believe he should be the engine of the club moving forward.

Last weekend’s performance comes after the 28-year-old anchor made a huge impression on his debut in September as Rangers annihilated Hamilton 8-0.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star narrowly missed out on featuring against Portuguese giants SL Benfica last Thursday after a final medical report determined that he had not fully recovered from a knock he sustained while on international duty with South Africa.

Glasgow Rangers currently sit top of Group D and although they have equal points (8) with second-placed Benfica, the Scottish club has a superior goal difference.

The game against Standard Liege will be very crucial as they look to take full control of the group going to the last match against Lech Poznan on the 10th of December.

Zungu has not played European football since his time in Portugal where he turned out for Vitoria Guimaraes who were in the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League, he will be looking at returning in style to the second biggest club competition in Europe.

The game against Standard Liege is scheduled for a late 22:00 (SA time) kick-off.
