Former Orlando Pirates star Joseph ‘Dukuduku’ Makhanya says all odds are against Kaizer Chiefs going into this week’s Soweto Derby.
The two ‘Soweto giants’ will battle for three points in what promises to be a mouth – watering Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium.
“The way things are it looks like this derby is ours, “said Makhanya.
“Besides the fact that I’m a Buccaneer, things favour them. When you look at Chiefs, their moral is bit down you see, and there’s this thing of saying ‘eish this League is slipping out of our hands. So, now they can’t afford to lose more games.
“But then again you know this game is another kind of game whereby the past sometimes doesn’t count, said the former Pirates midfielder.
“What counts is what you do on the day. But things favour Pirates to win the derby you see because they are on the rise, they are playing with confidence, Chiefs are coming from two losses.
“So, the mood is not sharp they will be too cautious. So but then Pirates again needs to guard against…they know these people’s strong points you see, and which happens to be Pirates’ s weak points you see because they struggle when it comes to defending set plays, aerial balls you see they struggle you see. But I’m hoping they are working on them.
“The first thing is to prevent them not to happen, because once you allow them to have set – plays it becomes difficult to defend them. So, prevention is better than cure.
“They must try to avoid the set – plays at all costs. But if ever Pirates can play with the same confidence they have been showing recently, I think they will win the derby by 2-0, I think. Ja I predict a 2-0, “concluded Makhanya.
