Former Orlando Pirates MDC captain Ricardo Lourenco has been named in Jwaneng Galaxy’s starting line-up that will do battle against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday at 15h30.
The two clubs clash in a Caf Champions League first round, first leg tie. The central midfielder joined Jwaneng Galaxy as the club reinforced its squad ahead of their 2020/21 Botswana Premier League and Caf Champions campaigns.
Lourenco had been clubless since he parted ways with the Buccaneers at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Prior to joining Pirates, Lourenco played for the Bidvest Wits’ academy, before moving to Europe where he turned out for Dutch club PEC Zwolle’s Under 21 side in 2015.
Lourenco was part of the South Africa Under 20 side which won the 2015 Russian Commonwealth tournament in St Petersburg.
Upon his return to South Africa, Lourenco joined Pirates and was subsequently promoted to the club’s first team ahead of the 2017/18 season by then-Pirates head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic. He left the Soweto giants in 2019 without playing a single competitive match for the club’s first team.
Meanwhile, former ASEC Mimosas striker Sede Dion will also make his debut for the club. He also joined the Botswana champions recently on a one-year deal.
Jwaneng Galaxy starting XI: Katlego Mbise, Moagi Sechele, Thabo Leinanyane, Fortunate Thulare, Isaac Paeye, Gape Mohutsiwa, Lebogang Ditsele, Thero Setsile, Ricardo Lourenco, Resaobaka Thatanyane, Junior Dion.
