Examination of candidatures for Caf Presidency and Executive Committee

The Governance Committee of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) met in Cairo on 5 and 6 January 2021, convened by its president Mr. Michel Kizito Brizoua-Bi, to carry out the eligibility checks of candidates for the positions of Caf President and members of CAF Executive Committee.

Five candidatures officially stood for Caf presidency and sixteen candidatures registered for position of Members of Caf Executive Committee.

At the end of the work, the committee ruled as follows:

Candidates authorized to appear on the list of candidates for the Presidency:

Mr. Augustin Emmanuel Senghor (Senegal), Lawyer, 55 years old, President of the Senegalese Football Federation since August 2009 and member of the CAF executive committee since February 2018.

Mr. Jacques Bernard Daniel Anouma (Côte d’ivoire), 69 years old, Financial Executive: Former member of the Fifa executive committee, former President of the Ivorian Football Federation and Honorary President of the Ivorian Football Federation.

Candidate declared ineligible

Mr. Ahmad Ahmad (Madagascar), Outgoing president

Candidates for the Presidency requiring additional checks:

Mr. Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania), 44 years old, Businessman, president of the Mauritanian Football Federation and Member of the Executive Committee,

Mr. Patrice Tlhopane Motsepe (South Africa), 58 years old, businessman, Club President (Mamelodi Sundowns FC).

Their candidatures were deemed admissible. However, the committee considered that further checks are necessary before a final decision. To this end, a hearing of these candidates will be organized in Cairo on 28 January 2021.

Candidates authorized to participate in the election of members of the Executive Committee

  2. Mustapha Ishola Raji (Liberia)
  3. Djibrilla Hima Hamidou (Niger)
  4. Edwin Simeon- Okraku (Ghana)
  5. Adoum Djibrine (Chad)
  6. Suleiman Waberi (Djibouti)
  7. Isayas Jira (Ethiopia)
  8. Feizal Ismael Sidat (Mozambique)
  9. Elvis Raja Chetty (Seychelles)
  10. Maclean Cortez Letshwithi (Botswana)
  11. Kanizat Ibrahim (Comoros)
  12. Patricia Rajeriarison (Madagascar)
  13. Lawson Hogban-Latré-Kayti Edzona (Togo)

Nominations to the Executive Committee requiring additional verifications:

  1. Mamadou Antonio Souaré (Guinea)
  2. Seidou Mbombo Njoya (Cameroun)
  3. Arthur De Almeida E. Silva (Angola)

Their candidatures were deemed admissible. However, the committee considered that further checks are necessary before a final decision. To this end, a hearing of these candidates will be organized in Cairo on 28 January 2021.

Caf will elect for a four-year term the successor of Mr. Ahmad Ahmad at the 43rd Elective Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled for 12 March 2021 in Rabat, Morocco.

In addition, for candidates for the Fifa Council, the eligibility check is underway at the level of Fifa bodies and the result will be communicated in due course.
