Cape Town City continued their impressive run of form as they thrashed Golden Arrows 4-1 in an Absa Premiership match, played at the Emirates Airline Park on Saturday evening, thanks to a Fagrie Lakay hat-trick.
‘The Citizens’ with outstanding statistics of four wins and just the one loss in their five matches in the PSL Bio Bubble, took the lead in the 9th minute through Lakay.
Three minutes later, Lakay was on target again with a right-footed effort to give CT City a 2-0 lead going into the first-half break.
The Cape-based picked up where they left off in the first half as Tashreeq Morris made it 3-0 with his first goal for CT City in the 63rd minute.
However, Knox Mutizwa finally unlocked CT City’s defence in the 74th minute as Arrows pulled one back.
Unfortunately for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, it was too little too late as CT City walked away with all the three points with Lakay completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot in referee’s added time.
Lakay was named the man of the match for his brilliant performance. “Scoring three goals in one match is a good feeling, so far we have been doing well and the aim is to keep on going,” said Lakay after the game.
Arrows chances of a top-eight finish are slowly slipping away as they drop to 11th place on the log standings with only two matches remaining, while CT City move up to seventh spot on 39 points.
In other results on Saturday, Orlando Pirates beat SuperSport United 2-1, while AmaZulu edged Black Leopards with Highlands Park and Maritzburg United playing out to a 1-1 draw.
