Brandon Truter picks Coach of the Season

Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter has voiced his opinion on who should be the recipient of the Coach of the Season award.

Most of the DStv Premiership clubs have three games to play before the season comes to an end. With the awards ceremony set to take place after the Nedbank Cup final, the Coach of the Season award is one of the most-anticipated.

Rulani Mokwena comes to mind to many after leading his side to the DStv Premiership glory with seven games to spare.

However, if Orlando Pirates win the Nedbank Cup, Jose Riveiro would come into the picture having guided his side to the MTN8 triumph earlier this season.

Truter says Mokwena deserves the award.

“I think the coach of the season should be Rulani for what he has achieved [with Mamelodi Sundowns],” said Truter.

“Champions League and also in the league as well, winning it by such a big margin. His team is playing such fantastic football as well.”

‘Brakkies’, as he’s well-known, was asked whether he felt he should be considered for the ward after leading AmaZulu to the MTN8 semi-final and Sekhukhune to the Nedbank Cup semi-final.

He admitted that he was outshone and doesn’t see himself receiving the honour.

‘OTHER COACHES DESERVE IT MORE THAN ME’

“Yeah, it’s also nice being a coach taking two teams in one season to a semi-final,” he added.

“Mind you [when] AmaZulu went to the final, Romain Folz didn’t score any goals, so I don’t know how we got to the final.

“So, yeah we will try with Sekhukhune, we have a midweek game and we have that game to look forward to as well.

“And hopefully we’ll get to the final, it’s the first in the history [of Sekhukhune].

“In terms of coach of the season, I think with my expectations, my beliefs and my objectives, wanting to achieve, I think there are other coaches that deserve it more than me.”
