Lindelani Ladies striker Mandisa Faye has described the latest developments of her call-up to the Banyana Banyana provisional squad as the greatest news ever for her.
The 26-year-old forward has scored 12 goals in five matches in the Sasol KwaZulu Natal League for Lindelani Ladies.
Describing her reaction after receiving the confirmation of the news from her coach, Faye told FARPost that it was something that she thought would happen at some point.
“I’m overwhelmed with the call-up, it’s one of the greatest opportunities especially with the fact that my birthday is on 26 September, so it’s a great gift for my birthday.”
“My call-up is as a result of a combination of many things, my team has been doing well, I’ve also score some goals and I think the coach (Desiree Ellis) saw me when she visited KZN.”
“My coaches at my team and my teammates have been pushing me, because I would not have been selected if the team was not doing well.”
“So they all contributed to me getting this call-up, for the team to perform well everyone must do well.”
“It’s something I have been longing for, to be in the same camp with the likes of Thembi Kgatlane, Linda Motlalo, Janine Van Wyk it’s overwhelming to be in that group of players.”
“Out of so many players in the country I’m really fortunate to be amongst those that have been selected, so it’s up to me to work hard in camp,” said Faye.
