The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) have confirmed the passing away of its vice president Rix Mweemba.
Mweemba died in the early hours of Tuesday at Coptic Hospital, Lusaka after a short illness.
“We regret to announce the death of the FAZ vice president Rix Mweemba. He was a true soldier and servant of the game. Go well veep,” announced FAZ in a statement.
‘Chipolopolo’ head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has also paid tribute to Mweemba.
“Dear VP Rest in eternal peace… since I landed in this great country you have been a generator of positive energy with a unique sense of humour and infectious smile. You left us prematurely to a better place but rest assured you will live forever in never-ending memories of our football family,” Sredojevic wrote on his official Twitter account.
Prior to being appointed as vice president in April 2017, Mweemba served as FAZ Treasurer and also played a huge role in the restructuring of the Zambia Premier League as chairperson of the League Restructuring Working Group.
