For the second year running, Football Club Malaga City have qualified for the promotion playoffs in Spain.
Last season, the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Spanish Tercera Division, but the resilient rising club have managed to return to the playoff round again.
South African attacker Kwinda Netshitangani joined Malaga at the beginning of the season and he has played a part in helping them achieve this milestone. Netshitangani has netted two goals and assisted another three strikes so far this season.
After the regular season where teams play each other twice, the top two finishers in the four groups go through to play in the promotion playoff round. The top four teams in the playoffs then qualify for the semifinals and ultimately with the winner of the playoff final getting promoted to the Tercera Division (the fourth division).
This is the winger’s first season in professional football after spending a couple of years at Barcelona-based Kaptiva Sports academy. The playoffs will begin on the ninth of April
Adrián Domínguez’s side are in form in the league and unbeaten in their last eight matches. They have won five games in a row and scored 18 goals.
Speaking to the club’s official website after winning against rivals CP Mijas Las Magunas on Sunday, Dominguez said it is their destiny to go all the way.
“I am sure that we are going to do things well and we are going to win by playing our best football. We are going to take care of the path that has brought us here and we are going to respect it.”
Striker Maxime Oliveri has been the club’s most reliable source of goals so far. He has scored 12 league goals and they will rely on him to keep finding the back of the net in the playoffs.
