Western Cape ABC Motsepe League outfit Batalion FC have announced that they have sold their status ahead of the 2021/22 season.
This comes after the Mbekweni Township-based side had agreed on the deal with FC Milan on the purchase of the club’s status.
“We have sold our ABC Motsepe League status citing unforeseen circumstances as well as unable to get any financial assistance from our Municipality and local business services, the club has been sustain by Chairman alone and it went deep into his pockets hence we ended up selling the Status,” read the club’s statement.
However, the club will continue with their development academy as well as their reserve team, who are on the verge of gaining promotion to the SAB playoffs.
“The Chairman will continue to help local football especially the junior leagues and calendar tournaments (Easter weekend soccer tournament and Pre-season Tournament),” the club further stated.
The club finished second place in the Provincial ABC Motsepe League with 23 points, 10 points behind log leaders Glendene United last campaign.
“To all our supporters, we apologise for the inconvenience, however, we are still focused and soon we will be back on top hoping to surpass our previous achievement.”
“Thank you for the love and support, let us continue to support local football,” concludes the statement.
