Johnny Ferreira has been sacked by GladAfrica Championship outfit Uthongathi FC.
Surprisingly, Ferreira was fired even though the ‘Cain Cutters’ are currently third on the log table, only six points behind table toppers Ajax Cape Town who are on 45 points.
According to Ferreira the sacking happened this morning.
“They dismissed me this morning for lack of results. What can I do boss?” a disappointed Ferreira tells FARPost.
Meanwhile Uthongathi CEO Jackson Mojapelo says as a coach Ferreira could have managed his players better.
“The decision is based on the results nothing much.” Mojapelo says.
“Remember we suspended him in December before we played JDR, and then since he got back, I think he’s got two wins and the rest is just draws and lose.
“We had to…and the past five games, basically here we assess coaches on five games, for the past five games he got only five points out of 15 and when you are in the top three you can’t get that, unless you are a team that is fighting relegation.
“I think as a coach you need to manage your team, I think we were on form at the wrong time, and right now it’s a very crucial time whereby we need that form and the form is not there. You can’t lose form at this moment if you want to go to the PSL,” added Mojapelo.
Mojapelo says Ferreira’s assistant Sifiso Dladla and goalkeeper coach Olivier Kuadio will be in charge on caretaker basis until the end of the season.
“The target is number one, I’m not gonna lie we want to reclaim our number one spot. You know we had it at some point, and we blew it, now we want to get to number one, we are not fighting for playoffs, we want number one.
“We are lucky to be still in the top three after dropping so many points, “concluded Mojapelo.
