Fighting spirit will determine who wins it – Middendorp

The 2019/20 Absa Premiership season is set for a photo finish this coming Saturday, as both log leaders Kaizer Chiefs and second placed Mamelodi Sundowns won their respective penultimate matches on Wednesday.

Amakhosi grabbed a hard fought 1-0 win against a 9-men Chippa United at Orlando Stadium, while Masandawana beat Polokwane City 3-0 at Loftus.

Tied on 56 points with a three goal difference, Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp insists maximum points against clubs fighting relegation cannot be guaranteed for the title chasers.

“It’s a very competitive last match day. We have Baroka who are position 15, Sundowns have to beat Black Leopards who are a point on top of Baroka,” said Middendorp.

“Both teams sitting at position 14 and 15 cannot just go to the game and give it away or easy going. We will see on both locations, and again the fighting spirit in these two matches will probably decide what is coming out at the end of the day,” he said.

The last round of Absa Premiership matches for the 2019/20 season:

Mamelodi Sundowns v Black Leopards

Chippa United v Golden Arrows

AmaZulu v Highlands Park

Baroka v Kaizer Chiefs

Bloemfontein Celtic v Maritzburg United

Bidvest Wits v Polokwane City

Orlando Pirates v Stellenbosch

Cape Town City v SuperSport United
