Moroccan Botola Pro league side RS Berkane have appointed former DR Congo manager Florent Ibenge to take charge of the first team.
After an impressive 2019/20 season, which saw them finish third in the Moroccan league and win the CAF Confederation Cup, RS Berkane have been struggling this season.
The Oranges were unable to qualify for the knockout stages of the Confederation Cup after finish third in their group and are currently on track to missing out on continental football next season.
In an attempt to salvage what’s left of the season, they decided to appoint former Congo national team manager Florent Ibenge.
The 59-year-old started off his managerial career in France in 2008 with ES Washquehal and then SC Douai. Then, in 2012 he had a brief spell in China with Shanghai Shenhua.
But after only five games in charge, he returned to his home country where he had the strenuous task of simultaneously coaching AS Vita Club and DR Congo.
Ibenge was successful with both teams, having guided DR Congo to a third place finish in the 2015 AFCON, while also lifting two Linafoot league titles and one Super Cup.
He has now signed a two-year contract with RS Berkane after having resigned from his position at Vita Club and the club will hope that he will be able to help them climb up the league table and join the top three.
His first game in charge will be on Thursday, 8 July against seventh place IR Tanger.
