Tinkler’s warning to his players

Maritzburg United head coach Eric Tinkler admits he is close to finalising the team which will start in the Telkom Knockout final.

The Team of Choice will battle it out against Pitso Mosimane’s Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on December 14.

Since beating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the semi-finals, Tinkler’s men have been putting in below par performances particularly in the 2-0 home defeat midweek against SuperSport United at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Once again Maritzburg were flat in the goalless draw against AmaZulu in the KwaZulu Natal Derby where Usuthu dominated most part of the match and created better chances.

The ex Bafana Bafana midfielder has warned his players to perform or miss out in the Telkom Knockout Final.

“I think I’m very close to deciding the starting line up to face Sundowns , obviously I’ve given a few guys opportunities,” said Tinkler following the draw against AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium.

The two sides played out a goalless draw.

“The boy (Bongokuhle Hlongwane) has been doing extremely well in the MDC (Multichoice Diski Challenge) and we went with him and Judas (Moseamedi) upfront and the young man has done very well… he’s a very gifted player.

“Deolin (Mekoa) came on and I thought he did a fantastic job in midfield, also he gives us a new dimension there. He can play through the middle, he can play out wide and he’s good with set pieces; free kicks and corners, so that is good for us,” he continued.

“So the options are there that’s the thing, that’s a good thing all I want is that headache of making that decision who’s gonna be in that starting line up and how I want to approach that game against Sundowns,” added the former Cape Town City and SuperSport United mentor.
