As we embark on a celebratory month of August to honour our women in sports, some hidden talented imbokodo certainly come to mind. Busisiwe Sijora is one of the few unsung football heroines who have played the game and later entered the management space with distinction.
FARPost caught up with this passionate and committed football soldier, and gathered the following:
Sijora was born 29 years ago in Cape Town, and as a tantalizing winger blessed with the technical swag and immense tactical disposition, played for the University of the Western Cape Women’s team. She later represented South Africa at Under-17 level and finished her career shortly due to a knee injury at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in 2013.
2. Coaching Science graduate
It was only natural for Sijora to study a sports-related course. In 2016 she graduated from TUT with a Diploma in Officiating and Coaching Science, a diploma that prepares unique sports managers with a solid understanding of coaching and officiating dynamics.
In this era, where sports science and technology has engulfed the game and influenced its outlook and future dispensation, the Sijora’s of this world becomes paramount.
Amongst her illustrious list of leadership and management achievements include, the management of the Blue Bulls Under-16, Under 18, and senior women’s rugby team, an invitation to South Africa national Under-17 and Under-20 women’s team training camps as a Team Manager and as Media Relations Officer for Team SA at the World Student Games held in Taipei.
She was also the National Executive Member of University Sport South Africa (USSA) and credits renowned sports leaders like Kenneth Neluvhalani and Jerry Laka as her mentors.
Sijora worked at Qina Holdings as the Social and Digital Manager and recently launched her new sports management company, BS Management. The company offers players representation, development of digital content, social media management and broad sports-related products.
Her talents far outweighs her petite physical structure and the game is far poorer without her involvement.
