Former Cameroon captain passes away

Former Cameroon captain Stephen Tataw has died at the age of 57 following a short-illness.

Tataw’s death was confirmed by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) on Friday.

The former right-back was the captain of the famous ‘Class of 1990’ that made global headlines at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy before painfully crashing out at the quarter finals, the farthest by an African team at the time.

He also captained the Indomitable Lions at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA.

Tataw’s club career saw him play for Cameroonian sides Tonnerre Yaounde and Olympic Mvolye.

He ended his playing time in Japan with Tosu Futures.
