South African international striker Lyle Foster will return to Portugal to find a new coach with Tiago Mendes having been sacked by Vitoria Guimaraes.
Mendes took over the coaching reigns from Ivo Vieira who guided the club to a seventh-place finish last season.
Guimaraes management was not pleased with Vieira’s run with Guimaraes missing out on its usual UEFA Europa League spot that they have occupied over the past few seasons.
The club then brought in Mendes who in his professional career has played for Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Lyon and Juventus.
Mendes signed a two-year-deal with Guimaraes, but after four league games having won only one game, drawn one and lost one the management has decided that the Spaniard is not the right man for the job.
The 39-year-old will not be pleased with how his first job as a senior coach has ended. He was previously the assistant coach of Atletico Madrid in Spain before taking up this post as Guimaraes coach.
