After missing out on two games for Portuguese Primeira Liga club Vitoria Guimaraes due to a back injury, Lyle Foster is set to return to the team’s match day squad this weekend against Gil Vicente.
Foster was very unfortunate in the game between Bafana Bafana and the ‘Chipolopolo’ of Zambia at Royal Bafokeng stadium when a defender cluttered into his back while competing in an aerial duel for the ball.
Coach Molefi Ntseki was forced to make an early substitution with the 20-year-old not able to continue after he could not feel his legs and couldn’t stand up so he had to be replaced by Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kermit Erasmus.
National team doctor Thulani Ngwenya later explained that the player was back walking again and should recover soon from the set back.
When he returned to Portugal Guimaraes’s medical team recommended that the attacker sits out the first two games to ensure full recovery before coming back to the team which led to him missing the league games against Boavista and SC Braga.
Guimaraes won away at Boavista 1-0 before losing 1-0 last weekend against Braga at home.
Foster has made just one league appearance so far this season his start coming against Belenenses on match day 1 of the season and he is yet to make another appearance mainly due to the minor knocks he has been getting since his arrival at the club.
The former Orlando Pirates attacker made a switch from French side AS Monaco to Guimaraes in August hoping to get more game time while he continues to establish himself in Europe.
Guimaraes face Gil Vicente on Sunday and will be looking for a positive result to move up the log as they currently sit 7th on the Primeira Liga table with 7 points from the first 5 games of the season.
