Galatasaray has been given a big boost ahead of Saturday’s derby clash against Besiktas.
After being out of action for weeks, Algerian midfielder Sofiane Feghouli is set to return to action this coming weekend as Galatasaray travel to rivals Besiktas in match day 18 of the Turkish Super Lig. It has been a very competitive 2020/21 season for all of the big clubs in Turkish football with all three in contention for the league title.
The top of the table stays an unclaimed territory so far this campaign. Beşiktaş leads the pack with 35 points after a strong turn around following a bad start to the campaign last year while Fenerbahçe is hot on their heels with 35 points. Besiktas has an advantage of a huge goal difference as they have been getting some big results in recent games. Galatasaray on the other hand have produced consistent results throughout the season, but struggled to move to the next gear hence they are 3rd on the table with 33 points from 17 games.
Feghouli has been very important for coach Fatih Terim as he builds and plans the style of play around the central midfielder. He plays a crucial role of shaping the game through his good playmaking abilities and organizing the talented strikers up front to suit his passing strengths. When he manages to create time and space for the forwards, Galatasaray is arguably the most dangerous team in the league.
A win against Besiktas will see Terim’s charges climb above their arch-rivals on the table with 36 points. Fenerbahçe hosts Ankaragucu on Monday and they are expected to collect maximum points.
Since his arrival at the club from West Ham United back in 2017, the 31-year-old has played 87 league games and scored 21 goals. This season he has featured in 12 games scoring once and assisting a further three strikes.
