DStv Premiership joint top goal scorer Ruzaigh Gamildien netted his second brace of the season when Swallows defeated Cape Town City 3-2 at Dobsonville stadium on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old has been in fine form for the ‘Dube Birds’ since his move from Chippa United at the beginning of the season.
The seven league goals, which put him tied alongside Bradley Grobler, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Themba Zwane, are the highest number of goals Gamildien has ever scored in the Premier Division.
“I just think I came back really motivated because I was a bit disappointed with my previous club (Chippa United) after I got released,” Gamildien told the media after the match against City.
“I had small goals for myself for the season and obviously most of my performances is actually through the coaches who believed in me and actually giving me a chance to prove myself once again,” he said.
The highest number of goals Gamildien has scored in a season were 11 while he was in the books of first division side Steenberg United during the 2019/2020 season.
“Obviously those are personal goals (being a top goal scorer), but most importantly is for the team to be as high as possible in the league. It all goes down to belief and obviously believing in one another as a team.
“Like the coach keeps on preaching we have to give credit to the man above for pushing us this far. We just keep taking it game by game and as time goes on we might find ourselves in a good position at the end of the season,” added the former Bloemfontein Celtic player.
Swallows are second, tied on 21 points with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after nine round of matches.
