Having scored 11 goals in the GladAfrica Championship for 3rd-placed Steenberg United, Ruzaigh Gamildien made a welcomed return to Port Elizbeth last week to try and fix Chippa United’s goal scoring issues.
Despite their good run of form under head coach Norman Mapeza, Chippa have only managed to score 14 goals from their 21 Absa Premiership games. Mapeza hopes Gamildien will help solve their striking problem.
“That’s why he’s here, he (Gamildien) can be the answer to our goal-scoring problem, “said the ‘Chilli Boys mentor’.
“But for him to function, he needs other players. I hope he will really give us something we’re looking for, a different dimension when we’re going forward, “added the Zimbabwean coach.
Gamildien was in action when Chippa lost 2-1 at home at the hands of the high-flying Orlando Pirates side on Saturday. The 30-year-old came in the second half to replace William Twala and had a couple of attempts at goal, 2 of them on target.
The Cape Town-born midfielder is a former Bloemfontein Celtic, Ajax Cape Town and AmaZulu player and will be hoping to continue with his good run of form which saw him be in the running for the GladAfrica Championship Golden Boot in second place on the top scorers’ charts.
