Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hinted that Bongani Zungu might not be staying at the club beyond this season.
Zungu, who is on loan from SC Amiens broke Covid19 protocols last week when he and four other players attended a party putting the entire team at risk.
The group was immediately removed from the rest of the team and ordered to go into self-isolation while the club and the Scottish Football Association decide on a punishment for them.
Having returned from their Uefa Europa League encounter against Royal Antwerp in Belgium, Gerrard spoke to Scottish media and addressed the situation. Last week, the former English international had said that he was very disappointed by the behaviour of his players.
The 28-year-old has already struggled to impress since his arrival at the club and after letting his manager down, it looks unlikely he will be at Ibrox beyond his loan spell.
Asked if this incident might have sealed the midfielder’s fate, Gerrard replied with a big yes.
“I think that would be fair to say, yes. That will take care of itself and we’ll move forward with the players who have remained professional and want to be part of a successful team.
“We spoke as a group and I explained the situation to them.
“We’re at such an important time of the season with the fixtures coming up that we can’t be worrying about it or letting our focus slide.”
After a convincing 4-1 win against Dundee on Sunday, Rangers is just four victories away from clinching the Scottish Premiership title.
The club is also on the verge of qualifying for the Europa League round of 16 having already defeated Antwerp 4-3 away from home in the first leg of the last 32.
The second leg is scheduled for Thursday the 25th of February.
