Former Orlando Pirates striker Gerald Stober believes Hellings ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango should be crowned the 2019/20 Absa Premiership Golden Boot winner already.
Following his brace against against Chippa United on Saturday, Mhango is now on 14 goals, 3 goals ahead of Bongi Ntuli of AmaZulu who is second on the top scorers’ charts followed by Kaizer Chiefs hitman Samir Nurkovic on 10.
Stober, who once won the top goal scorer award in 1994, thinks it will take some doing for the other strikers to catch the Malawian international.
“No, I don’t think so,” said Stober when asked if Mhango will be caught. “Not based on the last five or ten years it’s like normally 12 goals wins it.”
The 50-year-old former striker went to say that the kind of football that Pirates are playing currently works in Mhango’s favour.
“It’s the resurgence of Pirates, they’ve found something in their overall play. I think luckily for them they’ve found someone to finish off all the chances that are created.
“I think it’s the change of coach, watching Pirates now they are playing some good football. (Pirates chairman) Irvin Khoza made a good choice in changing the coach,” concluded Stober.
Interim coach Rulani Mokwena was replaced by Josef Zinnbauer from Germany.
