Ajax Cape Town’s march to the GladAfrica Championship title continued as Abednego Mosiatlhaga’s late winner at Rand Stadium on Wednesday gave them a 1-0 victory over Richards Bay.
Mosiatlhaga, who is the GladAfrica Championship top scorer with 17 goals drilled home the winner with ten minutes remaining to send Ajax nine points clear at the top of the table on their return to action.
“The guys looked a bit nervous, they were not as confident I didn’t see the flowing football we normally play but overall we created enough chances to win the game,” said Ajax head coach Calvin Marlin after the game.
Richards Bay coach Simo Dladla says he is happy with his side’s performance despite suffering a defeat.
“I am happy with our performance, obviously disappointed with the result. We are a work in progress and I am happy with what I saw today, with the way the team is progressing in terms of controlling games.
Meanwhile promotion hopefuls, Swallows FC drew 0-0 against TS Sporting at Tsakane Stadium. Despite dropping two points, Swallows jumped back to position two on the log standings with five games remaining in the second-tier league
At the Randburg Rugby Stadium, Mbombela United and Cape Umoya United played out to a goalless draw while Pretoria University and Real Kings also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Johannesburg Stadium.
In the fourth match of the day, TS Galaxy drew 1-1 against Steenberg United at the Wits Rugby Stadium.
The GladAfrica Championship will resume on Saturday, 15 August.
