Gomes the middle man for CAF Super Cup clash


South Africa’s Victor Gomes will be the man in the middle when 2 African club football giants Espérance de Tunis and Zamalek lock horns in the much-anticipated 2020 Caf Super Cup to be played Qatar, Doha-Thani Bin Jassim Stadium on Friday.

Zakhele Siwela, who was part of the FIFA 2018 World Cup officiating team will be Gomes’ 1st assistant referee, while Souru Phatsoane from Lesotho will be the 2nd assistant referee and Senegal’s Maguette Ndiaye is the 4th official.

To book their places in the Caf Super Cup, Espérance from Tunisia won the 2018/19 CAF Champions League by beating Wydad Casablanca in the 2019 ‘controversial’ final.

Zamalek from Egypt defeated RS Berkane to win the Caf Confederation Cup title.

Esperance and Zamalek have both announced their squads for the Super Cup on the Friday, February 14 (19:00).

Wydad Casablannca won the 2018 edition of the Caf Super Cup when they narrowly edged out TP Mazembe 1-0

Mamelodi Sundowns walked away as the champions back in 2017 as they defeated the same opposition TP Mazembe.
