Bidvest Wits defender Lorenzo Gordinho is itching to play against his former club Bloemfontein Celtic when the two sides meet in an Absa Premiership encounter on Thursday at the Tuks Stadium.
Gordinho joined Wits in January after struggling for game time at Kaizer Chiefs, following his return from a loan spell at Celtic last season.
“I think it is going to be a tough game, we have been watching Celtic, they are playing some good football. Their confidence is high, they reached the final of the Nedbank Cup, is going to be a good game,” said Gordinho.
During his loan term, Gordinho made 30 appearances in the green and white colours of Celtic, scoring a single goal.
“Another fight for both teams to get points and it’s a game I am looking forward to, playing against some old teammates and to give my best so that we can get a good result,” he added.
The 26-year-old defender went on to state that the Wits back four are determined to carry their good defensive form since the restart to the clash against ‘Siwelele’.
“We are happy with the clean sheets but I feel that sometimes we concede goals that are not directly in our control in terms of set pieces, which we are working hard on and I think we doing better now to keep those clean sheets.
‘The Students’ have only conceded three goals in five league matches in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Bio Bubble.
“It is not only the defenders, but the whole team is also working really hard off the ball to make sure that we are solid as a team and to try to maximise our chances of winning. If you don’t concede, to win a game will be easier,” said Gordinho.
Wits are fourth on the log standings with 43 points after 26 games, while Celtic occupy 10th place, two points away from the top eight.
“We are working hard to try start winning games and there are not many games left, and I think we just want to finish the season on a strong note,” concluded Gordinho.
