Antoine Griezmann has re-joined Atlético Madrid on a one-year loan deal from Barcelona, both clubs announced the news just before the close of the transfer window on Tuesday night.
Atlético confirmed that the Frenchman has an option on his deal to extend for a further year with Barcelona indicating that the Madrid club also has an option to buy the player for €40m.
“The Madrid club will pay the player’s wages and there is a compulsory permanent transfer clause. Barcelona would like to thank Antoine Griezmann for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future,” said ‘The Catalan giants’.
The 30-year-old attacker first penned a deal with the Spanish side in 2014 and is the club’s fifth all-time top scorer with 133 goals in 257 matches with 50 assists to his name.
In his first stint at Atlético, Griezmann won the Spanish Super Cup, Europa League and Uefa Super Cup.
While at Barcelona, he made 102 appearances and managed to score 34 goals and provided 17 assists.
