Grobler “honoured” to be Matsatsantsa’s top scorer

Bradley Grobler became SuperSport United’s all-time top scorer as they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in a DStv Premiership clash on Wednesday at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The lethal striker netted the winner just before halftime, the record-breaking goal that also pulled him ahead of the late Abram Raselemane to become SuperSport’s all-time leading goal scorer with 58 goals.

It took Globler eight years to break Raselemane’s record as he joined ‘Matsatsantsa’ from Ajax Cape Town back in 2013.

Grobler had equalled Raselemane’s 57 goals when SuperSport hammered TS Galaxy 3-0 last week.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. I think when people mentioned the 57 goals, it seemed so far away at the time, I think I was about six goals away, and now that I got it last week, equalled it, I thought to myself, you know this could be the toughest part, trying to break it and go one more,” said Grobler.

“But fortunately, enough, it happened, and as I’ve said in many interviews, the club been very good to me over the years, they’ve done a lot for me, they’ve stuck with me through thick and thin, through the injuries and I think it’s just my way of repaying the club for the faith they’ve shown in me.”

With his goal against ‘Siwelele’, Globler took his league tally to 10 in 10 matches this season – top of the Premiership goal scorers’ chart.

“It’s a great club, a very prestigious club, so very honoured to have achieved that,” added the SuperSport hitman.

The Tshwane giants head coach Kaitano Tembo also lavished praise on the striker for lighting the spark that led his team to their seventh win of the season and move second on the log standings, two points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Look, I’m very proud of him. I think he’s done well in the past two seasons. He’s been scoring goals for us‚ we don’t doubt his quality‚” said Tembo.

“He’s been previously hampered by injuries, but we’ve tried to manage him and make sure that he stays match fit and always available at training and in matches.

“But credit should also go to the medical team as well as conditioning team. They’ve always given him a programme and focus to make sure that he’s always fit‚ he’s always available and is enjoying his game.”
