Grobler stars as SuperSport beat Polokwane

SuperSport United recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership match at the Bidvest Stadium in Braamfontein on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory moves ‘Matsatsantsa’ to third place on the log standings, while ‘Rise and Shine, who are in the relegation zone, dropped down to the bottom of the table in 15th place after suffering their second successive defeat.

Bradley Grobler fired home the second goal late in the game and provided the assist in Ghampani Lungu’s first-half strike.

Grobler, who is third in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Golden Boot race with 13 goals walked away with the Man of the Man award for his efforts.

SuperSport head coach Kaitano Tembo said his side created enough chances to win the game as they push to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup by finishing in the top three.

“I am very happy with the overall performance of the guys, we are in good condition.”

“After four months without playing, we really didn’t struggle a lot in terms of fitness, I think we are in good condition,” said Tembo after the game.

“We stayed compact and defended well and the victory takes us a step further in finishing higher than last season.”
