SuperSport United hitman Bradley Grobler has challenged himself to break the 20-goal barrier after claiming the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot Award for the 2020/21 DStv Premiership season.
Grobler was comfortably on course to score 20 goals after grabbing ten goals in the opening ten matches of the campaign but sustained several injuries and ended up missing his initial target by four as he found the back of the net 16 times in 26 league appearances with two assists to his name.
The Bafana Bafana striker is disappointed that he failed to reach the 20-goal target that he set at the beginning of the season but pleased to win the top goal scorer’s accolade for the first time in his career.
“I am feeling relieved, for any striker it is a goal and a dream to win the top goalscorer award. I have been close on a few occasions and finally, I have done it and I am the top goalscorer, and it is a great feeling,” he said.
“Not to say I am going to be hard on myself, but I am happy but at the same time I set a target of 20 goals, I didn’t get there for different reasons, but I think it is a bit of a motivation for me.
“I have now broken that duck and got the top goalscorer award and that’s pressure off myself and maybe next season I can push on and get to those 20 goals so I am very proud but there is room for improvement. I want to be better; South Africa needs that 20-goal barrier to be broken so I will push for that,” added Grobler.

The last player to achieve the 20-goal mark was Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe back in the 2011/12 season whilst on the books of Moroka Swallows.
“Last season was good as well as I ended with 14 goals, but it was disappointing as I missed out again [top goalscorer award] and from the team’s perspective we started really well but we didn’t do as well as we wanted to.
“Lots of positives for me personally, scoring 16 goals even though I missed a lot of chances which could have easily taken me over 20 goals, I need to work on that, take more chances, and break the barrier, concluded Grobler.”
