The Lions of the North have secured the ABC Motsepe League spot after finishing second in the Gauteng SAB League Provincial play-offs held on the 29th of November and 6 December at TUKS Stadium.
Highlands Park finished top of the Ekurhuleni SAB stream in the Gauteng region and qualified to participate in the Provincial play-offs.
The Lions were participating with NWU Vaal FC, Pimville Cameroon, Tshwane South College and Maholosiane FC in the Provincial play-offs.
Highlands Park got off to a bad start as they went down to a 3-1 defeat in their first game against NWU Vaal FC and went on to play a 1-all draw with Pimville Cameroon, leaving them at bottom of the log with one point.
However, things got exciting the following week as the club knew that they need nothing less than six points on the last day of the Provincial play-offs matches. With that all being said, The Lions showed character as they hammered Maholosiane 4-2 before crushing Tshwane South College 3-2 in the second game of the last day.
Highlands Park will be joined by NWU Vaal FC and Maholosiane FC in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League, with Pimville Cameroon and Tshwane South College losing out on promotion.
“We send out our congratulations to another Lion, our left-back, Leonardo Rooi who was part of South Africa’s Under-20 squad that thrashed Lesotho 7-0 in the 2020 Cosafa Under-20 Men’s Championship. Leonardo played the entire game,” Highlands Park said in a statement.
The club also sent a message of appreciation to their supporters following their promotion to the ABC Motsepe League.
“To the Lions of the North we say, take a bow!”
