Newly signed Orlando Pirates defender and Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo says he is relishing the prospect of playing against Namibia and Zambia and hopes the team will put smiles on South African football fans.

Hlatshwayo is more than a little excited about the international friendlies against their COSAFA rivals in Rustenburg, starting with Namibia on 8 October and three days later they lock horns with Zambia at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki on Friday named a 25-man squad with a mixture of experienced campaigners and a number of exciting and upcoming youngsters, most of whom played and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics as “it is critical that South Africa broaden the database and increase the number and quality of players.”

“It feels good to be back after how long? four to five months, it feels good to be back in the national team, in camp knowing very well that we have started this journey to qualifying for the next AFCON. It is good to see the guys even though we met during the PSL Bio Bubble,” said Hlatshwayo.

“We are looking forward to getting the results and we know how important they are, we have faced both teams before and we know what kind of national teams they are and it is important for us to get positive results as we are preparing for São Tomé and Príncipe back to back.

Bafana players reported for the Bio-Bubble camp on Sunday at Royal Marang Hotel in the North West province and have already started with their preparations for the upcoming back-to-back-friendly matches.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns new striker Kermit Erasmus, who concluded the 2019/20 season on a high with 14 goals to his name, intends to replicate his club form for Bafana as he is part of Ntseki’s 25-man squad.

“It is exciting to be back, seeing that we have a challenge with the coronavirus, and I am looking forward to the matches that are coming,” said Erasmus.

“Hopefully I can continue doing that for the national team [scoring goals], that can rub off from the club to the national team and hopefully I can contribute positively so I am excited to be part of the national team again after such a long time,” concluded the Sundowns hitman.
