Amad Diallo has revealed that his love for Paul Pogba influenced him to join Manchester United.
Diallo joined the Red Devils in January from Italian Serie A side Atalanta Calcio.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scouted the 18-year-old in 2020 and he eventually penned a four and a half year deal which will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2025.
The Ivorian winger is amongst the most highly rated youngsters in Europe with many already comparing him to Manchester City star, Riyad Mahrez.
Speaking to Daily Star, Diallo revealed that Pogba played a crucial part in convincing him to join the former English champions.
“I met him (Pogba) when I was a kid at that trial at Juventus. After the session, they asked me who I would like to have a photo with, and I asked for Paul. He was my idol.
“Then, when I received the bid from United and I realised that Paul was here, I didn’t have to think twice and I wanted to come here straight away.
“To be playing with him five years later is incredible. I could not possibly ever imagine it happening. But these things happen once in a lifetime and, when such occasions come along, you have to seize them.
“To play with Paul five years later is unbelievable, and hard to describe, really.”
Despite not getting a lot of game time in his first six months at the club, Diallo played a crucial role to help United reach the 2020/21 Europa League final. He scored a goal as they drew 1-1 against AC Milan in the knockout round.
He made three Premier League appearances and assisted one goal.
Ivory Coast national team coach Patrice Beaumelle recently gave the attacker his international debut in March. He recently opened his international goal scoring account in a 2-1 win against Burkina Faso earlier this this month.
