SuperSport United have a plan to try and nullify Orlando Pirates in their DStv Premiership clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday (17:00).
Kaitano Tembo, who says winning the Premiership remains a burning desire for him, has a plan in place that he hopes his troops can execute on Wednesday to beat the mighty ‘Buccaneers’ and keep their title ambitions alive.
Despite winning once in their last four league outings, SuperSport are well poised to push league champions and rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race as only four points separates the two Tshwane giants.
“We know that Pirates are a very good team and they have been doing well and they have pushing to try and get up the log, so they will also want to win this game,” said SuperSport coach Tembo.
“But it’s always important for us to go out there with the right frame of mind‚ play very well and make sure that we attack them from the word go because we are playing at home.
“We probably [need] to score an early goal to try and unsettle them. We need to be a bit smarter‚ especially if we can get an early lead.
“It’s going to be a very demanding game where we need to bring our A-game in terms of our work ethic. A good work ethic will probably definitely get us through,” he added.
Pirates are building some momentum as they have registered four wins in a row in all competitions. However, their league away record is scrappy with two wins and three losses in their last five games.
“We really need to prepare well and pitch up because we are playing at home. We have had two or three days to prepare and it’s not enough rest. You can’t really train much because we needed the players to be fresh,” concluded Tembo, who is eager to lead ‘Matsatsantsa’ to their first league triumph in 11 years.
