Bafana, Zambia play out a stalemate

Bafana Bafana and Zambia were forced to share the points from their Cosafa Cup clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

South Africa started the first ten minutes on a high note – pressing forward in an attempt to find an opener.

However, Chipolopolo crackled to life midway through the first half putting pressure on the hosts.

For all their attacking possession, Zambia were struggling to create clear chances.

Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s side were caught out at times as Bafana found acres of space, particularly on the counter-attack, but managed to remain disciplined at the back.

In the second period, the home side looked to gain control of the game, as they settled well after a spell of possession.

Morena Ramoreboli’s boys continued to threaten in the final third, but their efforts were fruitless.

As a result, South Africa will face Mozambique in the semi-finals of this tournament on Friday, 16 July at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium with the kick-off set for 14:00.

Meanwhile, Senegal will take on Eswatini in the second semi-final of the competition on the very same day.
