UPSET: Maritzburg beat Chiefs at FNB

Maritzburg United have caused an upset by overcoming Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

Eric Tinkler’s men managed a 2-1 win over Ernst Middendorp’s side, with a brace from Daylon Claasen.

Claasen’s first goal came after Chiefs keeper Daniel Akpeyi failed to collect the ball in the box and Tebogo Tlolane delivered a good cross, with Claasen getting on the end of it to draw first blood in the second half.

Barely a couple of minutes later, Claasen headed home for Maritzburg’s second.

Samir Nurkovic pulled one back for the hosts, but Maritzburg held on to secure maximum points.

It was Chiefs’s 21st goal from a set piece situation in the Absa Premiership, more than any other side this season.

But it was too little too late for the log leaders…
