Kaizer Chiefs claimed the Soweto Derby bragging rights with a narrow 1-0 victory over archrivals Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership encounter at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Samir Nurkovic, who said: “It’s every player’s dream to score in the derby” ahead of the 100th league meeting between the two Soweto giants” led ‘Amakhosi to all the three points with a 54th minute acrobatic overhead kick.
The victory sees Gavin Hunt’s men move onto 23 points and climb to ninth place on the log standings and Pirates remain fourth on 35 points.
It was Nurkovic’s first goal in a Soweto Derby and his second of the season. A welcome relief for Chiefs as they also end a run of seven league games without a win.
The result marked the first time that Hunt has walked away with a win against the ‘Sea Robbers’ as Chiefs coach as his other previous three games against them resulted in convincing losses.
