Kaizer Chiefs’ top eight ambitions took a knock on Wednesday evening as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Swallows in a DStv Premiership clash at FNB Stadium.

Swallows drew first blood as Kagiso Malinga put his name on the scoresheet for the first time this season with a neat finish – goal in the 8th minute of the game.

But it only took Chiefs six minutes to find the equaliser through birthday boy Leonardo Castro.

The visitors come close to taking the lead once again as captain Lebohang Mokoena hits the post with a longrange effort as both side went into the halftime break level.

In the second stanza, clear-cut opportunities were few and far between, though substitute Samir Nurkovic did force a save out of Virgil Vries in the 80th minute, while Lazorous Kambole shot over in the 87th minute.

‘The Glamour Boys’ have now managed just one win from their last eight league matches and have also conceded 33 goals this campaign – their most ever in a single Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. They remain outside the top eight with three matches remaining.

Meanwhile, Swallows have now equalled the record for the most draws in a single PSL top-flight season (17 – level with Santos 05/06, Free State Stars 05/06 and Supersport 2012/13).
