TP Mazembe’s unbeaten run at home in the Caf Champions League came to an end on Saturday afternoon as Mamelodi Sundowns became the first team to beat the DR Congo giants in Lubumbashi.
Sundowns won the Group B encounter 2-1 to make it three games in the competition and move to nine points and consolidate their spot at the top.
The ‘Brazilians’ opened the scoring in the 66th minute through Peter Shabulile but the hosts found the equaliser in the 82nd minute of the game via a Mputu strike.
The match looked set to end in a draw, but the Brazilians ended up snatching all three points with some late drama.
A free kick just outside the box allowed Lakay to step up and fire home a beautiful effort in the last minute of regulation time, sealing a famous win for Downs.
