Sundowns hammer Pirates


Oozing sheer brilliance, Mamelodi Sundowns displayed unmatched game management in the second half to make light work of Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Sunday afternoon.

Sundowns thrashed Pirates 3-0 to return to the summit of the Premiership with two games in hand.

At halftime it remained goalless, with very few clear cut chances created by either team in what was a was a tactical battle.

‘The Brazilians’ were given a penalty in the 56th minute and Ricardo Nascimento stepped up to take the kick and scored.

Sundowns made it 2-0 in the 76th minute, after Peter Shalulile, who was making a return to action after an injury pounced on a defensive error from Thulani Hlatshwayo to net his 10th goal of the season.

Three minutes later it was 3-0 thanks to a Lyle Lakay free kick.
