A wasteful Orlando Pirates side narrowly edged GladAfrica Championship side Uthongathi in their Nedbank Cup round of 32 clash at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Gabadinho Mhango’s well-taken strike finally put Pirates in front early in the second half, as Uthongathi put up a brave performance against the DStv Premiership side.
In the first half, Pirates played with more dominance on the ball compared to their opponents moving into the final third but failed to score as both sides went into the halftime break 0-0.
The hosts created most of the chances and could have buried the KwaZulu-Natal side with an avalanche of goals had it not been for their lack of composure in front of goal.
Uthongathi forced a couple of dangerous shots in the encounter, but failed to make the most of them, and can now concentrate solely on their bid to gain promotion to the Premiership.
