Orlando Pirates earned all three points as they beat Nigerian giants Enyimba 2-1 in a Caf Confederation Cup group stage clash on Wednesday evening at a wet Orlando Stadium.
It was Pirates’ first win of the group stages after opening their campaign with a goalless draw with ES Setif in Ghana last week.
‘The Buccaneers’ took the lead through a fine backheel from Deon Hotto, who was set up by Linda Mntambo after he gathered the rebound from an attempted clearance from the Enyimba goalkeeper in the 27th minute of the game.
But the visitors grew into the game in the latter stages and found the equaliser through captain Austin Oladapo via a penalty after Siyabonga Mpontshane was adjudged to have fouled Anayo.
The home side kept up the pressure in the second half as they went in search of the winner and they were given a penalty after Gabadinho Mhango was fouled in the box.
But Tshegofatso Mabasa missed as the slippery surface caused him to slip and lobbed the ball over the bar.
A few minutes later, Mabasa made amends for his earlier miss in spectacular fashion, as he came out of nowhere to head in on the near post from a corner to seal the win for Pirates.
