Mamelodi Sundowns were deserving winners for their brighter play in a contest that teemed with quality.
Bafana Ba Style defeated TS Galaxy 1-0 to open up the gap on top of the table in their DStv Premiership encounter at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors started brightly, restricting Galaxy’s possession with a high press, closing down and doubling up whenever possible.
Meanwhile, the Rockets set up to play as the away side, sitting deep and absorbing pressure in a bid to try and catch Masandawana on the counter-attack.
Sundowns, however, continued to probe, with Peter Shalulile finding the back of the net in the 17th minute into the game.
Shalulile’s goal proved that it’s always a risky tactic to allow the Brazilians great chunks of possession.
In the 32nd minute of the match Lindokuhle Mbatha failed to level matters from a penalty spot as Kennedy Mweene dived the right way.
The second half took up where the first left off – Sundowns taking command of the clash.
As the clock ticked down, the Mpumalanga-based outfit tried to push forward to find an equalizer, but their efforts were fruitless.
The victory sees Sundowns maintain their top spot with 57 points from 26 outings, while Owen Da Gama’s boys are placed 8th on the table with 32 points after 26 games.
