Hungry Lions have secured a spot in the upcoming South African football third-tier National Playoffs after defeating NC Professionals 3-2 in the provincial playoffs over the weekend.
The side will now represent the Northern Cape at the National Playoffs for the second time in a row.
Lions won the provincial ABC Motsepe League ‘South’ stream by 48 points after 16 games, with an impressive +40 goal difference.
The Postmasburg-based outfit finished the season without losing a single game, having achieved 16 victories, for a 100% record. One may say this is a clear indication of consistency in the field of play.
While the COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on the club’s preparations at the beginning of the season, the club’s technical team managed to put their heads together in order to get positive results in the end.
“As a club, we had limited resources but we caught the eye. I am proud of the boys and hope we can serve as an inspiration to others. Hopefully, we can push on further and gain more recognition,” said the club coach Henry Basie, who also doubles as their team manager.
