Usually an unsung hero, Bidvest Wits midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange has earned high praise from his coach Gavin Hunt.
Nange, 28, delivered yet another fine performance, this time against Chippa United on Monday night, with the Clever Boys claiming 2-0 win at Bidvest Stadium in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.
“I thought Phathu Nange was outstanding tonight,” commented Hunt, during his post match interview with SuperSport TV.
Wits winger Elias Pelembe was picked as the Man of the Match, but Hunt believes Nange was fully deserving of the award, without taking anything away from the Mozambican.
SuperSport commentator William Shongwe was on the panel that chose the best player on the night. “What do goalkeepers know about football?,” Hunt quipped.
On a serious note, Nange appeared to have done enough to get the nod and not only did he deliver a great performance, but also scored with a long range shot.
Watching from the stands was Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki and if Nange’s performances this season are anything to go by, he may be in line for a national team call up.
*The Nedbank Cup quarterfinals draw will be held tonight at 19:00.
