Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane anticipates a tough battle when they meet Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of their 2020/21 Caf Champions League quarterfinal at Lucas Moripe Stadium this afternoon (15:00).
Sundowns lost 2-0 in the away leg in Cairo last weekend‚ and have a mountain to climb with the Cairo giants coach eager to qualify for the semifinals.
“We come here with the hope and the belief of reaching the semifinals. The 2-0 lead is a slight advantage‚ but it doesn’t mean that much because I’ve been around in this place‚ I know the capabilities of Mamelodi Sundowns‚ that they are a strong team,” said Mosimane.
“For me the approach is to copy what Ahly did last year when we [Sundowns] played Ahly. I think you know what happened here. So, I would appreciate to copy that – try and score a goal.”
“I think you read in the media what happens when we just draw. Because we’ve got 70 million fans, [it’s a] different mentality, different environment, the stars on the badge [Ahly’s Champions League title] say who are you to come here.
“I need to play against Bayern, Palmeiras, the Cairo derby, face Mamelodi Sundowns, face all the international coaches from Europe. In the league in Egypt, all the big coaches are there,” concluded the ex-Bafana Bafana coach.
Mosimane has overseen 42 matches in all competitions, with 30 wins, eight draws, and four defeats since joining the Egyptian side from Sundowns.
