SAD Belenenses midfielder Sphephelo Sithole wants to start the 2021/22 season on a high.
Last season, the anchor was one of the club’s key players and helped them finish in 10th spot in the Primeira Liga standings. This was a huge improvement from the 2019/20 campaign where they finished above the relegation zone.
He played 25 league games for the Lisbon-based side who now have to fend off interest from several clubs around Europe.
Sithole has been subject to a lot of transfer speculation, but the KZN academy graduate says his main objective is to start next season the same way he finished the last one.
“I’m focused on maintaining my fitness and gelling well with the guys in the team. Last season was a great one for me because it was my first full season with the first team so I was satisfied with how things went.
“Pre-season is going very well, I’m feeling great and I want to start on a high when the season starts soon.”
The 22-year-old is yet to make his Bafana Bafana debut, but he was on the radar of U23 coach David Notoane who included him in the preliminary squad towards the on-going Olympic Games in Japan.
He was part of the 2015 U17 team that went to the Fifa World Cup under the mentorship of coach Molefi Ntseki.
