Black Leopards captain Thabo Matlaba has reacted to the call-up by Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki.
Matlaba was named in the of 25-man squad to face Sao Tome e Principe in back-to-back Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for 27 March with the return match scheduled four days later.
The versatile player who last played for the national team back in 2016 says the call up is a reward for his performances in recent matches.
“It is something that I was expecting to be honest with you because I have been working hard you know. Even if we are down there the team has been working hard but unfortunately we are not getting the results,” Matlaba told reporters in Polokwane.
The 32-year-old also reacted to the criticism with his call-up.
“All I can say to that is that I have received positive messages so that’s where I am going to focus so the negative energy I am not going to focus on that,” he said.
“I hope this motivates the young players in the team, at the age of 32 I am still getting call ups to Bafana so they should be saying we are being motivated by ‘Thibos’ so we need to work hard to also get a call up”.
Bafana Bafana will assemble for camp on Sunday, 22 March to hold their training sessions at the Sandton Sports blub.
