Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has responded to the “blunder” that saw them naming defender Tebogo Langerman in their match day squad for the Nedbank Cup final against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday.
Langerman was on suspension prior to the match after picking up four yellow cards, but was surprisingly included in the squad, much to the surprise of football fans.
The Brazilians won the match 1-0 courtesy of a Gaston Sirino strike to lift the Nedbank Cup and securing their treble.
But the issue has since overshadowed the triumph with Celtic also confirming that they have officially lodged a complaint.
“I am not aware of that (Langerman being suspended),” Mosimane said after the match.
“I am not aware of that akere (isn’t that) you are asking me as the coach, I am not aware, I will ask the club.”
When asked what his thoughts are if the club was to forfeit the Cup due to the ‘error’, Mosimane said he believes football need to be won on the pitch.
“You know my opinion about football, you must win football on the pitch neh, that’s my opinion on football. Win on the pitch, if you were to win outside of the pitch now because there is something like this or that, okay if you win, you win. You know how you won.
“You know how football is, akere you know Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012 they won the Telkom Knockout with a ball that did not cross the line. Who talks about it now? They talk about Bloemfontein Celtic being the Telkom Cup finalists in 2012 so I don’t do admin at the club. I don’t do that. I focus on coaching the team and if I have reports on certain issues of course I can’t be a coach who doesn’t focus, who doesn’t observe those things but I don’t know about that I am not aware at this point in time.
“The management will have to tell us about this but you must win on the pitch neh,” concluded Mosimane.
